The value of friendships
You could live a hundred years and at the end you could still count your true friends on the fingers of one hand. When you get a true friend hang on to them. Their friendship is the most valuable thing you will ever have.
Kids' Birthday Party
This past weekend, I threw Jonah and Jordan's birthday party. Their birthdays are two weeks apart, so I was like..ok DEFINITELY ONE PARTY!!!! My sister and I have birthdays a month apart, and we grew up having our birthdays combined...and it was fun! And I have no complaints...so hopefully Jonah and Jordan will also enjoy their parties. We had a halloween themed party...the kids were dressed up as well as some of the adults. I dressed up as a softball player. Totally took me back to my softball years in middle school. =)
This time around, I wasn't as stressed as I normally was. It helped that I shopped early for the kids' costumes, and the Halloween decor. It also helped that my sister was in charge of games and crafts!
Glad it's over...I'm TIRED!!!! my house was immaculate the day of the party...of course, its back to "normal" cluttered with Jonah and Jordan's old toys...not to mention the hundreds of new ones they got! Our house is their playhouse...I swear!!!

Seven mom-friend personalities
I came across this funny article on the Disney family.com website. It was about seven mom-friend personalities. They were a little funny to me...kinda wish I was the "Tiny Tina" haha.
Could one of them be you?
Bossy Betty
Betty likes to treat everyone like they belong to her. "Not only does she deliberately make food for her daughter that she doesn't like... one time she put veggies on my plate and said I had to eat it," admitted Stacy.
Lazy Lisa
Lisa likes to use birthday parties, family gatherings or a random Tuesday play date as an opportunity to sit back (usually with a piping hot cup o' Joe or a big, fat glass of wine) and let you mother her children. While you prepare meals, referee squabbles and wipe up the hundredth spill of [fill in liquid of choice here], she hasn't got a care in the world - spending the whole time sharing the latest thing to happen "to her."
Judgmental Jenny
From what you feed the kids to the preschool you've chosen to send them to, Jenny never goes with an unexpressed opinion. It seems every sentence she utters starts with "You know what you should do..." Secretly, you find yourself waiting for the day you get the courage to tell her to knock it off (and let her know that her new Kate Gosselin haircut is hideous.)
Wishy Washy Wendy
My personal favorite, Wendy doesn't talk to her kids, she sings to them. "Honeeeeey, mommy's going to siiiit you on the caaaarpetttt if you don't liiiiisten." Her kids know the "threat" is never going to happen and continue on doing whatever it is they want. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Wendy could carry a tune - Good God, woman, follow through or get some singing lessons, please!
Suzi One-Up
Have a job, kids, money troubles? Suzi's got it harder, life is tougher, problems are bigger - just ask her. Did something exciting happen in your life? Coincidentally, something bigger happened to Suzi. If you're looking for sympathy, support or camaraderie, don't look at Suzi. She doesn't play that game.
Phony Phyllis
Don't you just once want to tell her you know all about her husband's secret shoe fetish? And who does she think she's fooling with that "I would NEVER have Botox"? Phyllis, we are so on to you.
Tiny Tina
She eats whatever she wants and stays thin. Ok, in all honesty, Tina's a super-nice person with a generous heart. But really, would it kill her to look like a cow just once? Sheesh.

Eclipse
Anyway, I started Twilight after buying the DVD. I was pretty impressed with the movie and found that I was curious and wanted more details of the whole Edward, Bella, Jacob deal. So here I am...now finished with the third book! The story is just fascinating, not to mention entertaining! I wish I had the fourth book so I can start on it. I love how the story keeps going....I'm sure I am going to be a little sad once I finish the 4th and final book. It's like I don't want it to end!
Can't wait to watch New Moon!!!!!! Man, I seriously have a crush on Jacob. I want him to be my own "personal space heater" hahha. =)

Lowering Blood Pressure
I am very conscious about the amount of sodium in food. I always look at the food label, see how many servings are involved in the product, and the amount of sodium. It's amazing to see how much sodium certain foods carry! I'm more aware of it because Warren has high blood pressure, so I try to cook foods with not too much salt.
A healthy person is only supposed to have 2300 mg of sodium per day. If you look at a soup can and look at the amount of sodium...usually its about 800mg or so (which is wayyy high) And then you look at the serving size and it probably says 2...so if you think about it, 800 mg per serving of salt..if you finish that can of soup, that will be about 1600 mg sodium which is already half your intake of salt for the day!!!!
So, I register on these websites where I can get low sodium recipes...and I just got an email about ways to lower Blood Pressure
1. REDUCE sodium intake
2. remove the salt shaker from the table!
3. Choose low sodium foods - Maintain a diet rich in fruits and vegetables! This can decrease blood pressure 8-15 mmHg
4. Cook without salt and use herbs and garlic to add flavor
5. Learn to recognize menu terms that basically mean salt (teriyaki, soy sauce (what!?), smoked, in broth etc.)
6. Follow the DASH diet
The DASH diet:
Grains and grain products: 7–8 daily servings
Vegetables: 4–5 daily servings
Fruit: 4–5 daily servings
Low-fat or nonfat dairy: 2–3 daily servings
Meat, poultry, and fish: 2 daily servings or less
Nuts, seeds, and legumes: 4–5 servings per week
Fats and oils: 2–3 daily servings
Low-fat sweets: 5 servings per week
7. Check your medicine. Some may be a source of sodium.
8. Consider Aspirin Therapy
9. Reduce Stress
10. Get Plenty of Exercise (30 minutes 3-5 times a week)
11. Consider medication
12. Monitor Blood Pressure at home
Some other facts about Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and heart attack. It is the most influential risk factor for stroke.
High blood pressure taxes the heart and cardiovascular system and over time can cause blood vessels to harden, narrow, and even burst.
Normal blood pressure is below 120/80 mmHg.
Prehypertension is above 120/80 mmHg and below 140/90 mmHg.
Hypertension is above 140/90 mmHg.
Just some facts to share....

blogs and first thought - Manners
I actually enjoy blogging. Some people may think that it's stupid to put your thoughts out there, but I think it's fun to read what other people do or think. I started my family blog, and realized there were other things I wanted to write about, however, I didn't feel it was appropriate to post them on my family blog, so here I am...I made my own!
Now, I can blog about random things...YAY.
First random thing...Manners
My Auntie Mildred made a comment about Jonah the other day when she was visiting. I gave Jonah some milk and he said "Thank you Mommy." My Aunt was impressed and said that he had good manners.
As a parent, I felt proud of my lil 2 year old son. I try my best to teach him the best manners possible. It bugs me when I see people who aren't grateful for things that are done for them. So, I want to teach my kids when they are young to appreciate things and have good manners. I hope that Jonah will continue to say his thank yous, his pleases, his your welcomes....Hopefully his manners will be a good example to his little sister Jordan...my little spice girl! She can be a feisty one! hahah.
But you better believe that I will continue to teach my kids proper manners...In my opinion, it's better to start early rather than later.
